Before wool, cotton and leather become manufactured goods and textiles, they are processed to remove impurities and prepare them for use. Our fibres and leathers are recognised globally for their superior quality and performance.
Wool needs scouring, carding, combing and spinning before it can be processed into woven, knitted or spun fabrics for use by textile manufacturers. Cotton fibre is cleaned and combed at a cotton gin, where the valuable seeds in cotton bolls are extracted. The cotton is then classed and graded - a job that takes many years of experience to be really excellent.
Animal hides are processed in tanneries, where they are soaked, limed, pickled and tanned before they can become high quality leather.
These high volume processes use a range of sophisticated machinery, and you could become one of the high level Operators, Supervisors and Specialist Mechanics who run and manage them. |
