Floors can make the difference between a good home and a great one. Floor Finishers and Coverers install and repair floor coverings such as carpet, vinyl, rubber, cork, parquetry and timber floors.

You will learn to install carpet tiles, adhesive fixed carpet and/or welded resilient flooring. Given the rise in popularity of polished floorboards in homes, you will learn to prepare timber floors for finish coating and apply finishes to timber or parquetry or cork. You could even specialise in mixing and applying epoxy coverings, installing parquetry flooring or installing timber sports flooring for gyms and basketball courts.

Part of your skills-base will be the ability to prepare timber sub-floors and install hard underlays, and to also sand, stain and apply finished coatings to timber floors.

Most Floor Covering and Finishing workers are contractors, so this could be an opportunity to work for a small firm, start your own business, or simply work your own hours and be your own boss.
