Do you like working with precious metals and stones? Have you got a good eye for detail and a need to be creative?
The jewellery industry is relatively small, but very satisfying to work in. Most jewellers work in the retail trade, designing and making jewellery such as rings, brooches, chains and bracelets.
As a Jeweller you’ll use a wide range of materials including metals, stones, wood, plastics, glass and fibres. You may specialise in using specialised techniques such as enamelling, engraving, anodising or casting.
You’ll create drawings and specifications and shape metal or other materials by cutting, bending, casting and linking, using specialised hand and power tools.
You’ll also learn to shape and polish stones to different cuts and customer specifications.
You could work for a larger jewellery manufacturer or eventually strike out on your own and start your own business.
